The Eames Turned Stool is a sculptural stool designed for the lobby of the Time-Life Building in New York City.
Henry Luce, founder of Time-Life, asked the Eames Office to design the new Time-Life lobby at Rockefeller Center. The entire design, from floor to ceiling, was done by Herman Miller. A small solid wooden stool designed for the project became the Eames Walnut Stool. Now, more than 60 years later, this classic has been given a new name: the Eames Turned Stool. The new name (Turned Stool) comes from the traditional woodturning technique used to carve the stool.
