The REVOLT CHAIR, designed by Friso Kramer for Ahrend in the 1950s, became his signature piece. HAY has reissued this chair, which embodies his minimalist style, together with Ahrend. The chair uses the same manufacturing process as the original, including the innovative use of materials, such as a folded steel sheet instead of the traditional steel pipes, for the frame. This reproduces the functionality and high durability that were the forerunners of mid-century design. In addition, this reissue combines used plastic and ABS resin to reinvent it as a sustainable product, and is available in a variety of colors. And it is also comfortable to sit on. It is ergonomically designed to provide comfort even when sitting for long periods of time, such as when eating or working. Its comfort, durability, and timeless design can be used in any environment or for any purpose.

CUTOUT STEEL COLLECTION

Products created by Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld at Ahrend in the 1950s have been reproduced as the CUTOUT STEEL COLLECTION in collaboration between Ahrend and HAY.

FRISO KRAMER

Friso Kramer was born in Amsterdam in 1922. After graduating from the Department of Interior Design at the Institute of Applied Arts in Amsterdam (now the Gerrit Rietveld Academy), he worked as a designer for the steel furniture manufacturer De Cirkel (which merged with the Arhend Group in 1939) from 1948 to 1963. He also served as the group's artistic director from 1971 to 1983.
His representative designs include the REVOLT CHAIR (1953), a concrete bench with two different back heights designed for public spaces, and the RESULT CHAIR (1958), designed with Wim Rietveld. In addition to his work as a designer, Friso Kramer was involved in the management of many art and design research institutes and educational institutions in the Netherlands and abroad, and also taught at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague.

HAY
HAY is a Danish furniture company founded in Copenhagen in 2002 by Mette Hay and Rolf Hay.
Guided by the belief that "good design is a right for everyone," co-founders and creative directors Mette Heye and Rolf Heye work with talented designers from around the world to create high-quality products that can be used by a wide range of people.

"The great thing about art is that it is full of originality and the unexpected. Architecture is the backdrop for our creations and the place where they are used. And fashion has the power to reflect the spirit and events of the times. This product, which exists between art, architecture and fashion and incorporates a little bit of all of them, may be the best product I have ever made."
Rolf Hey

HAY is committed to developing long-lasting products that minimize the impact on the environment. We optimize the use of sustainable materials such as recycled materials, FSC-certified wood and water-based lacquers, and increase the number of Eco-certified products. We have strict regulatory requirements and the majority of our products are tested to comply with international standards for strength, durability and safety.
