CUTOUT STEEL COLLECTION

Products created by Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld at Ahrend in the 1950s have been reproduced as the CUTOUT STEEL COLLECTION in collaboration between HAY and Ahrend.

WIM RIETVELD

Dutch-born Wim Rietveld (1924-1985) was an industrial and furniture designer. He studied industrial design at the Hague Academy in 1950, and after working as head of design at Gispen in 1953, he began working at De Cirkel in 1958. The steel furniture manufacturer merged with the Ahrend Group in 1939, which is where he met Friso Kramer. They created many iconic design collaborations together, such as the RESULT CHAIR in 1958. Rietveld also designed the PYRAMID TABLE & CHAIR for Ahrend in 1960. He is known for his functional chairs, tables and storage systems, but he also designed agricultural machinery, boats and trains. In addition to his design work, he lectured at the Royal Academy and the Technical University in Delft.
Together with Ahrend, HAY has reissued the RESULT CHAIR and PYRAMID TABLE series.

FRISO KRAMER

Friso Kramer was born in Amsterdam in 1922. After graduating from the Department of Interior Design at the Institute of Applied Arts in Amsterdam (now the Gerrit Rietveld Academy), he worked as a designer for the steel furniture manufacturer De Cirkel (which merged with the Arhend Group in 1939) from 1948 to 1963. He also served as the group's artistic director from 1971 to 1983.
His representative designs include the REVOLT CHAIR (1953), a concrete bench with two different back heights designed for public spaces, and the RESULT CHAIR (1958), designed with Wim Rietveld. In addition to his work as a designer, Friso Kramer was involved in the management of many art and design research institutes and educational institutions in the Netherlands and abroad, and also taught at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague.

HAY

HAY is a Danish furniture company founded in Copenhagen in 2002 by Mette Hay and Rolf Hay.
Guided by the belief that "good design is a right for everyone," co-founders and creative directors Mette Heye and Rolf Heye work with talented designers from around the world to create high-quality products that can be used by a wide range of people.

"The great thing about art is that it is full of originality and the unexpected. Architecture is the backdrop for our creations and the place where they are used. And fashion has the power to reflect the spirit and happenings of the times. This product, which exists between art, architecture and fashion and incorporates a little bit of all of them, may be the best product I have ever made."
Rolf Hey

HAY is committed to developing long-lasting products that minimize the impact on the environment. We optimize the use of sustainable materials such as recycled materials, FSC-certified wood and water-based lacquers, and increase the number of ECO-certified products. We have strict regulatory requirements and the majority of our products are tested to comply with international standards for strength, durability and safety.
