Vitra　ヴィトラ

Founded in 1950 as a Swiss furniture manufacturer, Vitra's cultural project, Project Vitra, began in 1957 in Weil am Rhein on the Swiss-German border. That was the year that founders Willy and Erica Fehlbaum began manufacturing and selling furniture by Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson in Europe. To this day, Vitra continues to produce these timeless masterpieces and is still based at the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein near Basel. Over the years, Project Vitra has expanded its activities in various directions.
The reason we call it a "project" is because everyone involved believes that it is a grand project that goes beyond mere business. Of course, the foundation of Vitra's growth is economic growth, and that will not change in the future. However, Vitra believes that ordinary everyday life actually has the potential to be much more beautiful, enjoyable, and stimulating, and that design is what helps us realize this and improve it even further. Project Vitra is taking a variety of approaches in various fields toward the goal of enriching everyday life.
